Né en 1962 à Brooklyn, Gregory Crewdson vit et travaille à New York. Figure majeure de la photographie américaine, il met en scène ses photographies comme des films avec acteurs, décors, accessoiristes, storyboards, maquilleurs. C’est une manière d’évoquer la face noire du rêve américain mais aussi ses propres drames psychologiques. Selon lui, seule la photographie reste toujours silencieuse. Il n’y a ni avant, ni après. Les événements qu’elle capture restent un mystère.
