While Palais de Tokyo in Paris is showing The Adventure of Details, a major exhibition ending on May, 16, 2016, Jean-Michel Alberola presents The Details of Adventure (Chapter II) at Galerie Templon. The exhibition is devoted to his recent works on paper.
Born in 1953, Jean-Michel Alberola lives and works in Paris. Since the early 1980s, the artist has been seeking to create protean works that move seamlessly between conceptual, abstract and figurative art. Paintings, gouaches, sculptures, artists’ books and films represent the different facets of his quest. With the characteristic mixture of humour, political commitment and poetry, his work composes philosophical riddles questioning the artist’s look and role in society.
In the last few years, his artwork has been on display at the Musée du Louvre in Paris (2005), Bibliothèque Nationale de France (2009) and Maison Hermès in Tokyo (2009). His work has recently been featured in a variety of exhibitions including "Mathématiques, un dépaysement soudain" at the Cartier Foundation and "Les Maîtres du désordre" at the Musée du Quai Branly (2012). Frac Picardie (Amiens) devoted a major retrospective to his neon works in 2012. In February 2016, The Palais de Tokyo invited him to an important solo exhibition, first one in Paris since his retrospective at Musée d’Art moderne de la Ville de Paris in 1997.
