Chiharu Shiota

L’artiste

Née à Osaka au Japon en 1972, Chiharu Shiota vit et travaille à Berlin depuis 1997. Usant de fils tissés, l’artiste combine performances, art corporel et installations dans un processus qui place en son centre le corps. Sa pratique artistique protéiforme explore les notions de temporalité, de mouvement, de mémoire et de rêve et requièrent l’implication à la fois mentale et corporelle du spectateur. Ces dernières années, Chiharu Shiota a été exposée à travers le monde, notamment au P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center, New York (2003), au New Museum of Jakarta, Indonésie, au SCAD Museum of Art, États-Unis (2017), au K21 Kunstsammlung NRW, Düsseldorf (2014), au Smithsonian, Washington DC (2014) et au Kochi Museum of Art, Japon (2013). En 2015, Chiharu Shiota a représenté le Japon à la Biennale de Venise avec son installation The Key in the Hand. En 2018, elle expose au Museum of Kyoto; et en 2019 exposa au Mori Art Museum de Tokyo à travers une exposition illuminant toute l'oeuvre de l'artiste.
