The Free figuration mouvement is dead, and it’s Appel who killed it. The vast canvases he’s exhibiting at Daniel Templon contain everything: baroque vehemence, brutal triviality, sonorous verbiage and unbridled narrative invention, all painted by the Dutch artist.
