Encadrée dans le cycle O Desenho como Pensamento do CAA – Centro de Artes de Águeda, l’exposition reprend le premier vers d’un poème d’Al Berto pour son titre et rassemble des œuvres d’artistes qui au fil des années ont travaillé sur le dessin comme un registre indiscipliné, parfois transversal à leurs pratiques. Les œuvres exposées montrent un dessin peu tangible, comparable à la pensée, comme si le geste ou l’intuition gagnait du corps et acquérait des formulations sculpturales, sonores, atmosphériques et spatiales.

Framed in the cycle O Desenho como Pensamento do CAA – Centro de Artes de Águeda, the exhibition takes up the first line of a poem by Al Berto for its title and brings together works by artists who over the years have worked on drawing as an undisciplined register, sometimes transversal to their practices.The works on display show that the drawing is not very tangible, comparable to a thought, gaining body and acquiring sculptural, sound, atmospheric and spatial formulations.

L’exposition L’homme gris interroge les représentations non-archétypales du Diable dans l’art contemporain. Bien loin de disparaître, sa figure a simplement muté, démontrant de nouveau la fascinante faculté d’adaptation qui lui a permis de traverser l’histoire de l’art – et des hommes – sans faiblir. Alors que la manière dont elle s’éclipse, se transforme, s’infiltre lui permet de revendiquer une position d’autant plus dangereuse, puissante, ou libératrice, elle offre aux artistes deux voies possibles à explorer. Leur choix oscille ainsi entre la coquille vide, le costume à endosser, l’image pure, et une insaisissable et constante métamorphose. Cette stimulante alternative évoque, voire invoque, les dissimulations réflexives ou le recours à l’anonymat comme armes stratégiques ; révèle l’intériorisation maléfique en l’homme, et son insoutenable banalité ; questionne la frontière du visible et de l’invisible, du déguisement et de la masse ; aspire à raviver une ténébreuse flamboyance. La diagonale de la création traverse dès lors des pôles philosophiques, économiques, politiques, esthétiques, ou moraux.

“L’HOMME GRIS” – GROUP SHOW

The exhibition L’homme gris explores non-archetypal representations of the Devil in contemporary art. Far from disappearing, his image has simply mutated, showing again his fascinating ability to adapt which has allowed him to pass through art history – and mankind – unabated. While the way in which he slips away, transforms, infiltrates allows him to claim an all-the-more dangerous, powerful, or liberating position, it offers artists two possible paths to explore. Their choice sways between the empty shell, the costume to don, the pure image, and an elusive and constant metamorphosis. This exciting alternative evokes, or perhaps, invokes, reflective illusions or the use of anonymity as strategic weapons; reveals the evil internalisation in man, and his unbearable banality; questions the boundaries between the visible and the invisible, disguise and mass; and aspires to rekindle a dark flamboyance. Creation leans, therefore, to span philosophical, economic, political, aesthetic, and moral fields.
