On dit que ces processus sont soumis à certains rythmes, car ils oscillent à différents moments au cours du cycle de 24 heures, en suivant toujours le même modèle d’activité. Circadian Rhythms présente le travail d’artistes irlandais et internationaux qui explorent ces forces invisibles à travers des réflexions sur le temps, la cadence de la vie professionnelle, les habitudes de sommeil ainsi que l’impact des technologies modernes qui perturbent le monde naturel.

All life on earth – humans, other animals, plants and even bacteria – carry out biological processes to a 24-hour pattern of activity that mirrors the length of the earth day. Such processes are said to be subject to certain rhythms as they oscillate at different points during the 24-hour cycle, always following the same pattern of activity. Circadian Rhythms presents the work of Irish and international artists who explore these invisible forces through reflections on time, the cadence of working life, sleeping patterns, as well as through the impact of modern technologies that disrupt the natural world.

De plus en plus fréquemment, ils tentent d’évoquer le patrimoine collectif par des stratégies performatives ainsi que par des moyens photographiques et cinématographiques.

Le Centre Pompidou Málaga présente la donation exceptionnelle faite au musée national d’art moderne par Jim Dine en 2017-2018 et qui comprend des œuvres de 1961 à 2016. Il s’agit d’un ensemble cohérent de peintures et de sculptures qui révèlent son exploration autobiographique incessante à travers ses motifs récurrents : outils, cœurs, peignoirs, vénus, pinocchios … Par ce don, Jim Dine tient à remercier la France d’avoir inspiré une esthétique qui a nourri son travail.

The Center Pompidou Málaga presents the exceptional donation made by Jim Dine in 2017-2018 to the Musée National d’Art Moderne and which includes works from the period 1961 to 2016. It is a coherent set of paintings and sculptures that reveal his incessant autobiographical exploration through his recurring motifs: tools, hearts, bathrobes, venuses, pinocchios … With this donation, Jim Dine wanted to thank France for having inspired an aesthetic that has fueled his work.

Gérard Garouste a choisi, le temps d’un été, de poser quelques-unes de ses oeuvres dans les nouvelles salles du Lieu de Mémoire de Chambon sur Lignon. Familier du Talmud, l’artiste voulait en savoir davantage sur ces jeunes juifs, qui au coeur des heures les plus sombres du nazisme, avaient réfléchi au renouveau de la pensée juive en s’intitulant, avec une touche de provocation, l’Ecole des Prophètes. La peinture de Gérard Garouste puise son inspiration dans la tradition talmudique, l’horreur de la Shoah et son histoire personnelle. L’exposition propose un parcours entre peinture et textes bibliques, entre art et histoire, autour d’une sélection de tableaux qui entrent en résonnance avec les réflexions de ce groupe de penseurs.

This Summer, Gérard Garouste has expressed the wish to install some of his works in the new rooms of the Remembrance Place of Chambon sur Lignon. Familiar with the Talmud, the artist wanted to know more about these young Jews, who in the darkest hours of Nazism had reflected on the revival of Jewish thought by calling themselves, with a touch of provocation, the School of prophets. Gérard Garouste’s painting draws its inspiration from the Talmudic tradition, the horror of the Shoah and its personal history. The exhibition offers a journey between painting and biblical texts, between art and history, around a selection of paintings that resonate with the reflections of this group of thinkers.

M9 – Le Musée du XXème siècle présente l’exposition de tatouage, Stories on skin (Histoires sur la peau), organisée en collaboration avec la Fondazione Torino Musei. L’exposition explore la dimension créatrice et mondiale des tatouages ​​d’un point de vue anthropologique, historique, artistique et social. Le tatouage est une pratique qui accompagne l’humanité depuis la nuit des temps, à tel point qu’on en trouve des exemples dans les corps momifiés d’Europe, d’Asie et d’Afrique. C’est un moyen d’expression qui n’a jamais été abandonné, même si sa signification a changé au fil des siècles : l’enchevêtrement de contaminations et d’échanges entre cultures différentes, entre Orient et Occident, qui a toujours caractérisé l’histoire du tatouage, se poursuit aujourd’hui avec plus de force dans un monde globalisé où les échanges culturels et commerciaux sont intenses et continus. Cela a toujours été un phénomène lié aux formes de marginalité sociale – selon Genesis, la première personne tatouée de l’histoire est Caïn – mais c’est en même temps une forme d’art et un phénomène de masse. L’exposition présente également de nombreuses œuvres d’artistes contemporains internationaux : Wim Delvoye, Santiago Serra, Dr. Lakra, Mary Coble Fabio Viale. M9 – The Museum of the 20th Century presents the Tattoo Exhibition, Stories on skin, organized in collaboration with Fondazione Torino Musei. The exhibition explores the worldwide and creative dimension of tattoos from an anthropological, historical, artistic and social point of view. Tattooing is a practice which has accompanied humanity since the dawn of time to the point that we find examples in mummified bodies in Europe, Asia and Africa. It is a means of expression which has never been abandoned, although its meaning has changed throughout the centuries: the intense tangle of contaminations and exchanges among different cultures, between East and West, which has always characterized the history of tattooing, goes on today with greater force amid a globalized world where cultural and commercial exchanges are intense and continuous. It has always been a phenomenon connected to forms of social marginality – according to Genesis, the first person tattooed in history is Cain – but at the same time is a form of art and a big mass phenomenon. The exhibition also displays numerous works by international contemporary artists: Wim Delvoye, Santiago Serra, Dr. Lakra, Mary Coble Fabio Viale. Le Château Malromé est heureux d’accueillir dans ses murs, durant cet été 2019, une vingtaine d’oeuvres de Prune Nourry précédemment exposées du printemps à l’automne 2017 au musée Guimet (Paris). Dans cette série d’œuvres, Prune Nourry s’est emparée d’un problème propre aux sociétés indiennes et chinoises, la disparition de toute une classe d’âge de petites filles causée par le dévoiement des techniques médicales prénatales en faveur des garçons. Ces sculptures trouvent à Malromé, demeure familiale de Toulouse-Lautrec, dans une scénographie inédite de Benjamin Gabrié, de nouveaux échos. Commissaire de l’exposition : Richard Leydier

Château Malromé is pleased to welcome in its walls, during this summer 2019, about twenty works of Prune Nourry previously exhibited from Spring to Autumn 2017 at the Guimet Museum (Paris). In this series of works, Prune Nourry has seized upon a problem particular to Indian and Chinese societies, the disappearance of a whole age-class of little girls caused by the use of prenatal predictive medical techniques in favor of boys. These sculptures, in a new scenography of Benjamin Gabrié, find new echoes in Malromé, family home of Toulouse-Lautrec. Curator : Richard Leydier

IncarNations est une exposition conçue par l’artiste sud-africain Kendell Geers en dialogue avec le collectionneur congolais Sindika Dokolo. Une initiative passionnante qui reflète la diversité des patrimoines esthétiques africains, débarrassés de tout prisme européocentriste et incluant l’influence des diasporas, des itinéraires des esclaves, du colonialisme ou des mouvements d’indépendance. Extraites de l’impressionnante collection de Sindika Dokolo, les productions d’artistes africains résonnent avec celles de la diaspora tandis que des œuvres d’art contemporain seront présentées aux côtés d’œuvres classiques, ouvrant ainsi enfin la voie au dévoilement de l’art africain, compris comme une pratique philosophique vivante.

IncarNations is an exhibition designed by South African artist Kendell Geers in dialogue with Congolese collector Sindika Dokolo. An exciting initiative that reflects the diversity of African aesthetic heritage, stripped of any Eurocentric prism and including the influence of diasporas, slave routes, colonialism or independence movements. From the impressive collection of Sindika Dokolo, the productions of African artists resonate with those of the diaspora while contemporary works of art will be presented alongside classical works, finally opening the way to the unveiling of African art, understood as a living philosophical practice.

Que disent de nous les espaces que nous habitons ? Quelles formes prennent ces espaces ? De quelle manière reflètent-ils notre mode de vie ? Si le domicile est la limite entre extérieur et intérieur, public et privé, sécurité et incertitude, notre « maison » est aussi la projection de notre propre corps (et en particulier de notre esprit) comme une sorte de microcosme qui permet de contester l’immensité de l’univers. Dans le cadre de cette exposition, nous concevons la maison comme un espace-temps dans lequel nous vivons l’expérience de l’habitation, ancrant le désir primordial des hommes et des femmes d’occuper une place dans le monde, qui est également un tremplin pour que l’imagination prenne son envol.

How much do the spaces we inhabit say about us? What forms do such spaces take? In what way do they reflect our lifestyle? If the home is the border limit between outside and inside, public and private, safety and uncertainty, “home” is also the projection of our own body (and in particular our mind) as a kind of microcosm which with to dispute the immensity of the universe. In the context of this exhibition, we conceive of home as a space-time where we unfurl the experience of inhabitation, anchoring men and women’s primary desire to occupy a place in the world, which is also the springboard for imagination to take flight.
