Que disent de nous les espaces que nous habitons ? Quelles formes prennent ces espaces ? De quelle manière reflètent-ils notre mode de vie ? Si le domicile est la limite entre extérieur et intérieur, public et privé, sécurité et incertitude, notre « maison » est aussi la projection de notre propre corps (et en particulier de notre esprit) comme une sorte de microcosme qui permet de contester l’immensité de l’univers. Dans le cadre de cette exposition, nous concevons la maison comme un espace-temps dans lequel nous vivons l’expérience de l’habitation, ancrant le désir primordial des hommes et des femmes d’occuper une place dans le monde, qui est également un tremplin pour que l’imagination prenne son envol.

How much do the spaces we inhabit say about us? What forms do such spaces take? In what way do they reflect our lifestyle? If the home is the border limit between outside and inside, public and private, safety and uncertainty, “home” is also the projection of our own body (and in particular our mind) as a kind of microcosm which with to dispute the immensity of the universe. In the context of this exhibition, we conceive of home as a space-time where we unfurl the experience of inhabitation, anchoring men and women’s primary desire to occupy a place in the world, which is also the springboard for imagination to take flight.

L’abbaye de Lagrasse, située au sein du massif des Corbières dans la vallée de l’Orbieu, est considérée comme l’un des plus importants établissements bénédictins des pays d’Aude.  Pour IN SITU Patrimoine et art contemporain, Abdelkader Benchamma a réalisé un grand dessin mural de près de 40m2 face à la cheminée Renaissance de la salle d’apparat de l’Abbaye.

Alors que tant de points les rassemblent, et qu’ils sont des références importantes pour la génération actuelle d’artistes et de commentateurs, Jean-Michel Alberola et Arnaud Labelle-Rojoux n’ont, inexplicablement, jamais été réunis. Dans le cadre imposant du Couvent des Minimes, sept « chapelles » profanes accueilleront, comme autant de chapitres d’un livre, les productions récentes des deux artistes, dans un télescopage digne d’un synchrocyclotron de la pensée et de l’art. Ce bombardement visuel et mental devrait permettre au regardeur de « voir », c’est-à-dire d’accéder, même incomplètement, même imparfaitement, à l’énergique charge poétique et politique tapie au cœur de ces œuvres”. While so many points bring them together, and they are important references for the current generation of artists and commentators, Jean-Michel Alberola and Arnaud Labelle-Rojoux have, inexplicably, never been exhibited together. In the imposing setting of the Convent of the Minimes, seven secular« chapels » will host, like so many chapters of a book, the recent productions of the two artists, in a telescoping worthy of a synchrocyclotron of thought and art. This visual and mental bombardment should allow the viewer to “see”, that is to say to access, even incompletely, even imperfectly, the energetic poetic and political charge lurking in the heart of these works . “Tableau and Transformation” présente un aperçu de la collection de photographies du XXe siècle du Tampa Museum of Art, pierre angulaire de la collection permanente du musée. L’exposition regarde comment les artistes ont utilisé des effets de chambre noire et des pratiques d’atelier distincts pour créer de nouveaux récits en photographie. Des artistes tels que James Casebere, Robert Cumming, Stephen Frailey, Sandy Skoglund et William Wegman créent des environnements construits, brouillant souvent les frontières de la réalité et de la fiction dans leurs images. Les photographes Blythe Bohnen, Duane Michals, Arnulf Rainer, Lucas Samaras et Cindy Sherman utilisent la transformation en tant que moyen d’exploration de l’identité, du genre et du lieu. Cette exposition présente une cinquantaine de photographies comportant des objets allant du milieu des années 1960 au début des années 2000, issues principalement de la collection permanente du Musée.

“Tableau and Transformation” presents an overview of the Tampa Museum of Art’s holdings in 20th-century photography, a cornerstone of the Museum’s permanent collection. The exhibition looks at how artists have used distinct darkroom effects and studio practices to create new narratives in photography.  Artists such as James Casebere, Robert Cumming, Stephen Frailey, Sandy Skoglund, and William Wegman create constructed environments, often blurring the boundaries of truth and fiction in their images. Photographers Blythe Bohnen, Duane Michals, Arnulf Rainer, Lucas Samaras, Cindy Sherman examine the transformation of one’s self as a means to explore identity, gender, and place. This exhibition features approximately 50 photographs with objects ranging in date from the mid-1960s to through the early 2000s, predominately drawn from the Museum’s permanent collection.
