Cette exposition rassemble des oeuvres rares de Julião Sarmento, des pièces inédites ou qui n’ont encore jamais été exposées et qui couvrent la carrière de l’un des plus importants artistes portugais. Ces œuvres sont d’ailleurs mis en lien avec certaines périodes et différents domaines dont on n’a, paradoxalement, que peu de trace. Les commissaires de l’exposition ont collaboré avec l’artiste afin de réaliser cet exercice en reconstitution.    Commissaires: Nuno Faria et Filipa Oliveira

This exhibition is dedicated solely to bringing together unique works by Julião Sarmento – never before seen or never before produced pieces – which cover the career of one of the most prominent Portuguese artists, with these works related to certain periods and various areas which we paradoxically have little record of. Cette exposition évènement explore l’influence de Michael Jackson sur certains des plus grands noms dans l’art contemporain, rassemblant plusieurs générations d’artistes travaillant sur différents supports. Avec comme commissaire le Dr. Nicholas Cullinan, directeur de la National Portrait Gallery à Londres, cette exposition sera inaugurée en été 2018 pour coïncider avec ce qui aurait été le 60ème anniversaire de Michael Jackson, le 29 août 2018. Avec entre autres Andy Warhol, David Hammons, David LaChapelle, Kehinde Wiley, Glenn Ligon.

This landmark exhibition explores the influence of Michael Jackson on some of the leading names in contemporary art, spanning several generations of artists across all media. Curated by Dr Nicholas Cullinan, Director of the National Portrait Gallery, the exhibition will open in the summer of 2018 to coincide with what would have been Michael Jackson’s 60th birthday (on August 29, 2018). Le motif du labyrinthe a d’ailleurs gagné une nouvelle importance dans l’art. Labyrinths are based on complex systems that challenge our orientation in a playful way. In a globalized world they become symbolic signs that give the growing feeling of confusion a tangible form. The motif of the labyrinth has also gained new significance in art. The room structures, many of which were developed especially for the exhibition, invite you to lose your way with passion, and to experience the search for orientation as a productive force. THE AMAZON – EXPOSITION PERSONNELLE

L’Amazone monumentale de l’artiste française Prune Nourry, une sculpture de près de 4 mètres inspirée par la mythologie grecque et par l’Amazone blessée présentée dans les collections du Met, s’installe à New York sur la Standard High Line Plaza jusqu’à la fin du mois de juin. Le jeudi 21 juin, cette guerrière urbaine, réalisée en béton argile, sera inaugurée au cours d’une performance de l’artiste accompagnée par Jon Batiste au piano sur la Standard Plaza. En écho à son expérience personnelle du cancer du sein, et à l’histoire des Amazones dont on prétend qu’elles se coupaient le sein droit pour être plus habiles à l’arc, Prune Nourry détruira l’un des seins de l’Amazone  lors d’une future cérémonie cathartique et secrète. A l’image de La destruction n’est pas une fin en soi – Buddha monumental en ruines présenté par Prune Nourry au Musée National des Arts Asiatiques- Guimet à Paris en 2017, L’Amazone est recouverte de bâtons d’encens rouges, renvoyant à la fois à la tradition de l’acupuncture et aux ex–votos.  Elle évoque une divinité appellant à l’attention, aux soins et à la guérison et délivrant un message à toutes les femmes, combattantes et survivantes. La sculpture de l’Amazone sera vendue aux enchères, une partie des bénéfices destinés à la lutte pour l’éducation et la prévention anti-cancer et aux soutiens des femmes atteintes du cancer du sein.  INAUGURATION 21 Juin – Performance 21h00 pile (arrivée suggérée dès 20h45)

THE AMAZON – SOLO SHOW

STANDARD PLAZA NYC, NEW YORK, USAJune 21, until end of June 2018

French artist Prune Nourry’s Amazon is to be installed and unveiled on the Standard High Line Plaza. A13 feet tall Amazonian woman with a wounded breast, the sculpture was inspired by Greek mythology and a marble statue on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.  On June 21 this contemporary urban warrior made of winterstone will be celebrated in a musical incense ceremony and live performance by the artist accompanied by Jon Batiste on solo piano at The Standard Plaza.  Rooted in her intimate experience of breast cancer, and echoing a once claimed tradition that the Amazons cut off their right breast to be more competent archers, Prune Nourry will later on break one of the breasts from The Amazon’s bust in a cathartic gesture, during a secret ceremony. Similar to Destruction Is Not The End – a ruined, fragmented monumental Buddha created by Prune Nourry for the Museum of National Asian Arts in Paris – The Amazon is partly covered with red incense sticks, recalling both acupuncture needles and ex-votos. She evokes a deity calling for care and healing – her gaze is iridescent, her glass eyes making her feel alive. The concrete woman aims to deliver a message to all women, warriors and survivors.  Nourry’s Amazon will be on display in The Plaza at The Standard, High Line until the end of June. Following the installation’s residency at The Standard, the sculpture will be sold at auction; part of the proceeds will be donated toward education regarding cancer-preventative lifestyles, wellness, and support for women living with cancer. Le musée Jean Cocteau de Menton présente une exposition majeure de l’artiste Valerio Adami réunissant peintures, dessins et photographies, de la fin des années 1960 à nos jours. Né à Bologne en 1935, peintre, dessinateur, graveur, Valerio Adami, après une première exposition personnelle à Milan (1957) où il apparaît encore influencé par le Surréalisme de Roberto Matta, prend rapidement la voie de la Nouvelle Figuration et celle de la Figuration Narrative. Entre ligne et couleur, dessin et peinture, le travail de Valerio Adami peut se concevoir comme une écriture à part entière, un voyage à travers la mythologie, la poésie, l’intimité d’un artiste. Le musée Jean Cocteau collection Séverin Wunderman propose une promenade au sein de la collection de l’artiste sur un demi-siècle de création. « La peinture est comme l’écriture. Elle permet de lire le caractère du peintre et, quoi qu’elle représente, elle le représente lui-même, de telle sorte qu’on prononce toujours le nom d’un peintre au lieu de prononcer celui de son modèle qui n’est qu’un prétexte caché de l’autoportrait. »

ADAMI : LIGNES DE VIE – SOLO SHOW

Museum Jean Cocteau in Menton presents a major exhibition of Valerio Adami, gathering  a body of paintings, drawings and photographs from the late 1960s until today. Born in Bologna in 1935, Adami is a painter, a drawer and a printmaker. After his first solo exhibition in Milano (1957) when he was still very largely influenced by Roberto Matta’s surrealism, the artist soon followed the  path of European New Figuration and Narrative Figuration Oscillating in between line and colour as well as in between drawing and painting, Valerio Adami’s work  can be perceived as a kind of writing in itself,  an exploration through mythology, poetry and the intimacy of an artist. The museum Jean Cocteau / collection Séverin Wunderman, proposes a journey through the artist’s half a century creation.
