L’art et l’espace est une exposition inspirée de la collaboration nouée en 1969 entre le sculpteur basque Eduardo Chillida et le philosophe allemand Martin Heidegger, qui s’était concrétisée par la publication d’un livre d’artiste au titre éponyme. En mettant au gout du jour et en développant les concepts et les questions qui ont émaillé cet extraordinaire échange, l’exposition présente plus d’une centaine d’œuvres d’artistes internationaux et propose une relecture de l’histoire de l’abstraction sur les six dernières décennies.

The point of departure of Art and Space is the collaboration between Basque sculptor Eduardo Chillida and German philosopher Martin Heidegger in 1969, which resulted in the publication of an artist book whose title inspired that of this exhibition. By updating and fleshing out concepts and questions embedded in that extraordinary dialogue, this show presents more than 100 works by international artists and offers itself as a reinterpretation of the history of abstraction in the past six decades.

L’Elgiz Museum présente « In Fact », nouvelle sélection de la collection. L’exposition met l’accent sur le concept de représentation et de l’acte de référence. « In Fact » comprend des œuvres sur supports mixtes et effectue une recherche sur les modèles de référence en matière de représentation.
Comment réévaluer l’acte de représentation de plus en plus compliqué dans l’ère post-factuelle à laquelle nous sommes confrontés aujourd’hui ? Au travers de la construction identitaire et de la perception de l’identité sociale ? L’oeuvre intitulée State of Being par Chiharu Shiota, qui représentait le pavillon japonais à la précédente Biennale de Venise, synthétise une réalité dont nous connaissons l’existence, mais que nous ne parvenons pas à décrire.

Elgiz Museum presents a new selection from the collection: In Fact. The exhibition focuses on the concepts of representation and the act of referring. In Fact includes works of different media and investigates the models of representation through the referred. How do we re-evaluate the increasingly impossible act of representation in the current post-truth era we face today; through constructed identities and the perception of social identity? The hollow dress titled State of Being by Chiharu Shiota, who represented the Japanese Pavillion at the previous Venice Biennale, bundles up a reality we know that exists, but is indescribable. Camerimage Film Festival and the Centre of Contemporary Art ‘Znaki Czasu’ in Toruń are pleased to present new photographs by Gregory Crewdson, in collaboration with Gagosian New York.
The work of the American photographer Gregory Crewdson has gained great acclaim from both critics and art collectors worldwide. His photographs are an embodiment of sophistication: meticulously composed and executed with great attention to detail, they easily engrave themselves in the viewer’s memory. Some of Crewdson’s earlier series had been planned months in advance and created with the help of a team of up to 40 people, which naturally evokes associations with a movie set. During his 20 years of activity as a photographer, his unmistakable style has won him global recognition. His latest project, Cathedral of the Pines, however, is his most intimate endeavour yet.
Before coming to the Centre of Contemporary Art in Toruń, Cathedral of the Pines was both exhibited at Gagosian in New York, where it was received with great acclaim. Toruń will be the second of two European cities to hold the exhibition, the other being London.
On Sunday, November 12, the Centre of Contemporary Art will hold a meeting with the artist.

Elle présente une installation multimédia monumentale qui marie différents media – sculpture, objets trouvés, film, et aborde les conventions de représentation de la naissance, de la mort, de la danse, du jeu et de la violence.

‘Shoonya Ghar’ will be on display for the first time in Mumbai. Who is asleep and who is awake in this city, this home, this settlement, and this fortress of nothingness? Sudarshan’s exhibition ‘Shoonya Ghar’ is titled after a poetic work by 12th century poet Gorakhnath who also influenced his celebrated successor Kabir. The exhibition features a large scale multimedia installation piece that draws on sculpture, found objects and film. The sculptural piece in the outdoor plaza is constructed like an architectural set, while the film involves building and construction of the set alongside characters enacting scenes in which dramatic action mobilizes conventions of representing birth, death, dance, play and violence in local traditions of story-telling. Thus the set becomes the mise-en-scene for viewing the film. The film reflects on the construction of the set or the stage, musical score and performance, and the viewer is offered these components in various states of construction and has the opportunity to put these modular pieces together in constructing a narrative that may draw upon their experience, imagination and history.

Le musée de Grenoble présentera du 28 octobre 2017 au 28 janvier 2018 une rétrospective de l’oeuvre de Daniel Dezeuze. Conçue en étroite collaboration avec l’artiste, elle permettra d’évoquer plus de cinquante années de création, de ses premiers travaux du milieu des années 1960 jusqu’à ses sculptures les plus récentes, en passant par les oeuvres qui marquèrent sa participation au mouvement Supports/Surfaces.
Membre fondateur en 1970 de Supports / Surfaces, Daniel Dezeuze pose avec le groupe la question du devenir de la peinture et de son rôle dans la société capitaliste.
A partir d’une sélection très précise d’oeuvres retraçant les principales étapes de l’oeuvre de Daniel Dezeuze, cette rétrospective permettra de saisir à la fois la complexité et la cohérence de la démarche de l’artiste sur plus de cinq décennies. Elle mettra en évidence également la place singulière qu’elle occupe dans le contexte de la création plastique en France durant cette période, et l’importance qu’elle revêt – par la modestie même de ses moyens – dans l’illustration de la capacité de l’art à émouvoir tout en enrichissant la vision et la compréhension du monde.

From October 28, 2017 to January 28, 2018, the museum of Grenoble will devote a retrospective to Daniel Dezeuze’s work. Organized in collaboration with the artist, it will present more than 50 years of creation, from his early works of the middle of the sixties to his most recent sculptures, showing the artworks that participated to the Supports/Surfaces movement.
Founding member of Supports/Surfaces in 1970, Daniel Dezeuze and his group questions the painting’s future and its role in the capitalist society.
Thanks to a SHARP selection of artworks showing the main steps of Daniel Dezeuze’s work, this retrospective presents the complexity and the consistency of his art OVER more than five decades. It will highlight (SANS S° its importance in the FRENCH context OF VISUAL ART and also art’s capacity of moving and expanding our world’s comprehension.

Après avoir longuement mis en scène les plus grandes stars de sa génération comme Jennifer Lopez, Leonardo Dicaprio, David Bowie ou encore Uma Thurman, le photographe et réalisateur américain opère un véritable tournant artistique en 2006 lors d’une visite de la chapelle Sixtine à Rome. Totalement chamboulé par cette expérience, il décide de se retirer du monde et entame alors un nouveau chapitre artistique avec The Deluge, une oeuvre puissante inspirée du « Deluge » de Michel-Ange. Il abandonnera ensuite la représentation de la figure humaine pour photographier entre autres des paysages industriels décalés, telles ses stations-service envahies de végétation tropicale ou se raffineries constituées de matériaux recyclés. Ses œuvres actuelles, inspirées d’un rapport nouveau entre l’homme et la nature vous plongeront dans un univers onirique, coloré et mystique. Outre les photographies originales de David Lachapelle, l’exposition présentera également des making of de son travail et des clips vidéo réalisés pour des chanteurs célèbres.

BAM is to host, for the first time in Belgium, one of the largest and most important retrospectives ever dedicated to the great American photographer David LaChapelle. The exhibition looks back over his entire artistic output from the 1990s to the present day.
After many years with the biggest stars of his generation as his subject matter, the artist began a new creative chapter with a series of more personal pieces highlighting his concerns regarding ecological and ethical issues affecting the world.
More than 100 photographs will be exhibited – some in large format – touching on all aspects of his prolific output, together
with music videos he has produced for well-known pop and rock singers.

Dans la salle centrale du Palazzo Carpegna, l’artiste reprend l’installation The Flowering Sheet (Poet Singing), originellement présentée au Getty Museum de LA en 2008, associant sculptures monumentales et murs couverts de poèmes calligraphiés.

« The Raft. Art is (not) Lonely » réunira 73 artistes (inter)nationaux à Oostende sous l’égide des commissaires Jan Fabre et Joanna De Vos, et présentera 52 nouvelles créations d’artistes jeunes et confirmés. L’exposition parle de la quête de l’artiste et de la dualité de la création, qui repose à parts égales sur l’isolement et l’engagement. Des artistes de générations et de parcours différents ont été invités à composer l’exposition en se penchant sur le lien entre le Radeau de la Méduse (1818) de Théodore Géricault et l’œuvre de Jan Fabre Le Radeau est (pas) solitaire (1986). Les commissaires entendent activer la ville et la faire (re)découvrir. Outre les sites muséaux connus, ils ont cherché des lieux plus insolites tels que le restaurant de Peperbusse, le Palais de Justice, l’immeuble Europacentrum, les écuries de l’hippodrome Wellington ou les cryptes de l’église Sint-Jozef. « The Raft. Art is (not) Lonely » sera donc un parcours artistique réparti sur 22 sites de la “Ville sur Mer”.

« THE RAFT. ART IS (NOT) LONELY » – GROUP SHOW

« The Raft. Art is (not) Lonely » will bring together 73 international artists in Oostende chosen by curators Jan Fabre and Joanna De Vos and will present 52 new creations of young and experienced artists.
The exhibition discusses the artist’s quest and the duality of the creation, based on isolation and engagement.
Artists from different generations and different paths were invited to question the link between « Le radeau de la méduse » (1818) of Théodore Géricault and Jan Fabre’s work « Le Radeau est (pas) solitaire (1986) ».
The curators have the intention to stimulate the city in order to make it (re)discovered. Besides the well-known museum, they looked for more unsual places like the Peperbusse restaurant, le
Palais de Justice, the Eurpacentrum building, the stables of the Wellington track race or the crypts of the Sint-Jozef church.
« The Raft. Art is (not) Lonely » will be an artistic journey disseminated in 22 places of the « City by the sea » .
