L’exposition Dépenses présentée à partir du 8 octobre à Labanque — le centre de production et de diffusion en arts visuels tout fraîchement redéployé à Béthune dans les locaux de l’ancienne Banque de France — inaugure un cycle en trois temps consacré à Georges Bataille, conçu comme une trilogie par Léa Bismuth. Pour ce premier volet, comme pour les suivants, la commissaire investit l’ensemble des 1500 m2 d’exposition de ce lieu hors du commun, en confrontant des oeuvres d’artistes français et internationaux, vivants ou historiques, dont la majeure partie est tout spécifiquement produite pour l’occasion.

The exhibition Expenses opens on October 8th at Labanque, the production and diffusion center for visual arts recently restructured at Béthune in the spaces of the old Banque de France. The exhibition launches a three-part cycle; conceived like a trilogy by Léa Bismuth and dedicated to Georges Bataille. For its first part, as for the following ones, the curator takes advantage of the 1500 square meters of this extraordinary space and confronts artworks of French and international as well as contemporary and historical artists whereas the majority was conceived especially for this occasion.

De où venons nous à où allons nous ? Du commencement à la fin, des origines à l’éternité, telle est la trame de l’accrochage From here to eternity. Angelo Musco, l’artiste invité, aborde inlassablement dans son œuvre ces cycles de l’existence : la naissance – thématique récurrente de son travail – l’origine et le devenir, les métamorphoses de l’être et de la nature, le mystère, les abymes. Pour accompagner Angelo Musco dans son voyage, d’autres œuvres, entre autres de Chiharu Shiota et Ivan Navarro, viennent à sa rencontre, dialoguent avec lui et plongent dans cet espace libre, sans commencement ni fin, en apesanteur. L’existence peut être ainsi un entrelacs de connections, de relations, parfois dues au hasard, parfois volontaires, comme des fils, tissés et (é)tirés à l’image de l’œuvre de Chiaru Shiota.

From “Where do we come from?” to “Where are we going?” From beginning to end, from origins to eternity, such is the guiding theme and framework of the exhibition, From here to eternity. In his works, guest artist Angelo Musco tirelessly explores the cycles of existence: birth—a recurrent theme in his work; origins and evolution ; the metamorphoses of the human being and nature; mystery; and abysses. Accompanying Angelo Musco on his journey are works, among others from Chiharu Shiota and Ivan Navarro, that encounter his, engaging in a dialogue and free falling weightlessly into an open space with no beginning or end. Existence can therfore be the intertwining of connections and relationships, sometimes due to chance, other times intentional, like the threads that are woven and (out)stretched, as in the work by Chiaru Shiota.

L’exposition au MAC Lyon présente l’intégralité des actions et performances de Jan Fabre depuis 1976. C’est un voyage dans la mémoire de Jan Fabre à la rencontre de quarante années de création, qui pose cette question : comment exposer la performance ?
La mise en scène, conçue par Jan Fabre et Germano Celant, propose une vue d’ensemble, réunissant sur des tables et au mur plus de 800 objets : dessins, photographies, artefacts, costumes, maquettes que l’artiste appelle des « modèles de pensée », films, œuvres au stylo à bille bleu…
JEUDI 29 SEPTEMBRE 2016 à 18h00 : NOUVELLE PERFORMANCE AVEC EDDY MERCKX ET RAYMOND POULIDOR
L’exposition au macLYON s’accompagne d’une nouvelle performance de l’artiste, créée spécialement pour Lyon au vélodrome du Parc de la Tête d’Or : « Une tentative de ne pas battre le record du monde de l’heure établi par Eddy Merckx à Mexico en 1972 (ou comment rester un nain au pays des géants) ». Cette performance sera commentée et filmée en direct, en présence d’Eddy Merckx.

In 2016, ‘Stigmata’ presents the totality of Jan Fabre’s actions and performances since 1976. A journey around the memory of Jan Fabre, involving 40 years of creation, it has the merit of interrogating, not the action or the performance, but the way to exhibit it, the way to present it. The mise en scene by Jan Fabre and Germano Celant, an overview of all performances and actions, gathers 87 glass trays, 800 objects, drawings, photographs, artefacts, costumes, models which he calls “thought models”, films, works in blue ballpoint pen, and more. THURSDAY 29 SEPTEMBER 2016, 6 PM : NEW PERFORMANCE WITH EDDY MERCKX AND RAYMOND POULIDOR “An attempt to not beat the world hour record set by Eddy Merckx in Mexico City in 1972 (or how to remain a dwarf in a land of giants)”, created for Lyon at the Parc de la Tête d’Or velodrome, with commentary and live filming, in the presence of Eddy Merckx. Jan Fabre pays tribute to the Belgian cyclist. The artist grabs the handlebars and thrusts his feet into the toe clips in an attempt not to beat the world record set in Mexico City in 1972. In a salute to the talent of the man they called “The Cannibal” because of his insatiable hunger after victories, Jan Fabre allows himself to be caught up and swallowed by the beauty of failure.

Le musée des Beaux Arts de Mons (BAM) consacre une grande exposition à Gérard Garouste, réunissant une sélection de plus de 80 œuvres, parfois monumentales, qui donnent un aperçu original de l’ensemble de la carrière du peintre. L’exposition est conçue autour d’un angle d’approche inédit, sur la trame du roman de Cervantès Don Quichotte . En complément, la salle Saint-Georges, située à deux pas du BAM, accueille une installation spécialement conçue par Gérard Garouste. Celle-ci invite le visiteur à se perdre dans les méandres d’un labyrinthe constitué de près de 35 toiles monumentales. Une expérience physique et visuelle unique. The Museum of Fine Arts in Mons (BAM) is dedicating a major exhibition to French painter Gérard Garouste, gathering over 80 works, some of them monumental in size. This selection will give an original overview of his entire career. The exhibition was mainly and for the first time conceived following the framework of Cervantes novel Don Quixote . Salle Saint-Georges – at a stone’s throw from BAM – will host an installation specially designed by Garouste. It invites visitors to lose themselves among the twists and turns of a labyrinth created out of around 35 monumental canvases – a unique physical and visual experience. This exhibition, curated by Bernard Marcelis and Xavier Roland, BAM’s Director, will also exclusively reveal two of his sketch books – a rare opportunity that allows us to enter the private world of his artistic process. Cette année, Francesco Clemente réunit l’art contemporain et le merveilleux décor du Choeur baroque. Il amène à Alba des oeuvres récentes encore jamais exposées en Italie. After Omeros est composée de deux installations et de quarante aquarelles inspirées d’Omeros, le poème épique de Derek Walcott qui lui a valu le prix Nobel de littérature. L’exposition est accompagnée d’une série de lectures provenant directement de l’oeuvre de Derek Walcott.

Francesco Clemente this year will be to bring together contemporary art with the marvelous setting of the Baroque Choir. The artist will lead to Alba his recent works never exhibited in Italy. After Omeros will be composed of two installations and forty watercolors inspired by the epic poem Omeros which earned the writer Derek Walcott the Nobel Prize for literature. The exhibition will be accompanied by a series of readings, taken from the work of Derek Walcott.
