Monday, June 13, 2016 7pm Opening and Performance First presented at the Getty Museum in 2008, ‘Muscle and Salt’ (2016) by Jim Dine is an immersive installation in the Antikenmuseum Basel and Sammlung Ludwig, inspired by two forms of classical art: figural sculpture and lyric poetry. On Monday at 7.30pm, Dine will read from his poems while being accompanied by a double bass player.

‘Accumulation: Searching for Destination’ Shiota’s installation is inspired by the everyday movement, life, and thoughts of the individual. When travelling, we hold a general wish and try to follow that path, and while the red strings connect the suitcases to the starting point of each personal journey, we cannot control the unexpected which continuously shapes our destination.

‘Traffic’ is a mobile composed of seven pairs of traffic lights that loop continuously from soft green to yellow to red. By employing the lights in this way, Navarro detaches a ubiquitous element from daily life and transforms it into a new perpetual experience, igniting an unconscious awareness of something that in ordinary use conditions the public’s psychological behavior.

Le Virgina Museum of Fine Arts organise l’exposition “A New Republic de Kehinde Wiley”, en présentant l’oeuvre profonde et poignante de l’un des artistes phares américains.
Composée d’environ soixante oeuvres – dont des peintures, sculptures, vidéos et vitraux – cette exposition donne un aperçu des 14 années de carrière de Wiley et montre ses oeuvres clés : ses célèbres peintures figuratives de membres de la communeauté noire dans lesquelles il réactive et interroge la grande tradition occidentale du portrait.

Composed of approximately 60 works, including paintings, sculptures, videos, and stained glass windows, the exhibition provides an overview of Wiley’s prolific 14-year career, prominently featuring his signature figurative canvases of black men in which he ingeniously reworks the grand portraiture traditions of Western culture.
A fully illustrated catalogue published by the Brooklyn Museum and DelMonico Books/Prestel accompanies the exhibition.
Kehinde Wiley: A New Republic is organized by the Brooklyn Museum and Eugenie Tsai, the John and Barbara Vogelstein Curator of Contemporary Art at the Brooklyn Museum.
