La Fondation Maeght consacre au peintre Gérard Garouste son exposition d’été, prolongée exceptionnellement jusqu’au 29 novembre. En chemin sera l’occasion de découvrir un ensemble de près de 80 peintures, sculptures et dessins, dont de nombreusesoeuvres inédites, spécialement réalisées en 2015. Tout en ayant une dimension rétrospective, l’exposition se concentre sur la création et les recherches actuelles de l’artiste. L’accrochage proposé se lit comme un parcours provocateur d’interprétations et d’associations libres. Gérard Garouste y présentera pour la première fois ses carnets ; offrant au visiteur de pénétrer les coulisses de sa création. La popularité de Gérard Garouste n’a d’égal que sa singularité. ‘Ne demande jamais ton chemin à celui qui le connaît, tu risquerais de ne pas t’égarer ‘ (Rabbi Nahman de Braslav) : cet appel dit toute la démarche de l’artiste, qui choisit la figuration et l’étude des mythes, des archétypes fondateurs, pour mieux explorer aujourd’hui l’intimité humaine.

The Maeght Foundation dedicates its summer exhibition, which will exceptionally run until the 29 November, to French painter Gérard Garoust. En chemin is an opportunity to discover a set of about 80 paintings, sculptures and drawings with new works, specially created in 2015. The exhibition’s retrospective dimension is completed by a strong focus on the current researchs of Gérard Garouste. It also presents unpublished notebooks, offering the visitor a look behind the scenes of the painter-alchemist. The exhibition layout proposes a provocative journey of interpretations and free associations. Mount Olympus. To glorify the cult of tragedy, a 24-hour performance is one huge slab of history dipped in a sea of time. It is humanity’s time, time of the birth of tragedy.
Simultaneously distant and nearby, we recognize outlines of stories and characters taken from Greek tragedy. These characters have their faults torn open by Fabre, are left intatters, beaten by violence and Homeric laughter and fervent ecstasy. Mount Olympus is shaping up to be a unique experience. Come climb that mountain, dive into that ocean. This will be unforgettable.

Le peintre français Philippe Cognée et le sculpteur chilien Ivan Navarro participent à la grande exposition d’été de la Vieille Charité à Marseille.
Du début du XXe à nos jours, cette exposition s’attache à retracer, à travers une centaine d’oeuvres d’artistes majeurs – dont Matisse, Léger, Miró, Calder, Kandinsky –  les liens et les influences partagés entre l’Art, l’architecture, la science, la robotique, la science-fiction et l’astronomie.
Elle rassemble plus de cent œuvres, venues du monde entier, provenant des institutions les plus prestigieuses, pour présenter l’univers futuriste des artistes modernes et d’aujourd’hui.

French painter Philippe Cognée and Chilean sculptor Ivan Navarro join in the large summer exhibition at the Vieille Charité in Marseille. From the beginning of the 20th century until nowadays, gathering works by major artists such as Matisse, Calder or Kandinsky, the exhibition recounts the links and reverse influences in between Art, architecture, science, robotics, scifi and astronomy. More than a hundred works coming from the most prestigious international institutions are offering to view the futuristic universe of modern and contemporary artists.

La grande installation Public Notice 2 ( 2007) de l’artiste indien Jitish Kallat est exposée jusqu’au 5 Octobre 2015 à la Art gallery New South Wales de Sydney en Australie, dans le cadre d’une présentation de la collection d’art asiatique de Gene and Brian Sherman.
Cette œuvre fait référence au discours historique de Gandhi, prononcé en 1930 avant sa ‘marche du sel’, où il prône la non-violence et la désobéissance civile. L’œuvre reconstitue le discours, lettre par lettre, dans son intégrité ; chaque lettre semble être faite d’ os, comme si l’artiste avait exhumé ces mots de leur sépulture historique. D’après Kallat, ‘Dans notre monde contemporain infecté par la terreur, où l’on combat le terrorisme aux heures de grande écoute à la télévision, des voix comme celle de Gandhi résonnent comme celles de reliques abandonnées’.

ART GALLERY NEW SOUTH WALES, SYDNEY

Large-scale work Public notice 2 (2007) by Indian artist Jitish Kallat is being installed at the Art Gallery of NSW in Sydney, in an exhibition of works from Gene and Brian Sherman’s Asian art collection, until October 5.
The work renders Gandhi’s historic speech calling for non-violence and civil disobedience before the famous Salt March in 1930 – in its entirety, letter by letter. Each letter appears to be made from bone, as though Kallat has exhumed these words from their historical resting place. As Kallat says: ‘In today’s terror-infected world, where wars against terror are fought at prime television time, voices such as Gandhi’s stare back at us like discarded relics.’
