George Segal

L’artiste

Né en 1924 à New York,  George Segal a vécu et travaillé dans le New Jersey, Etats-Unis, jusqu’à sa mort en 2000. Ses mises en scène sont conçues comme une réflexion sur l’individu et sa place dans la société du XXème siècle. Jouant sur la perméabilité des espaces, il invite le spectateur à dialoguer avec ses figures anonymes et figées. Sa technique du moulage par bandes de plâtre appliquées à même le corps lui permet de révéler la force évocatrice du geste et sa dimension poétique, sociale, érotique ou politique.
