Featuring new works that include paintings, multimedia installations, drawings and site-specific interventions, the show reflects the artist’s profound deliberations on the interrelationship between the cosmic and the terrestrial. In ‘Order of Magnitude’, one finds a contemplation of overarching interconnectivity on the individual, universal, planetary and extra-terrestrial dimensions. Inspirés par l’ancien cadre maritime du Musée des Spiritueux, ils prennent pour point de départ la représentation romantique de la mer, du port et des marins, qu’ils mettent en regard avec la surexploitation menaçant aujourd’hui d’exterminer la vie marine.

Une exposition imaginée par Lola Gonzàlez sur une invitation d’Éric Mangion. “Hiver 2020, il y a la découverte de l’univers de Mariana Enriquez, une claque. Le titre de son livre me hante “Ce que nous avons perdu dans le feu”. Novembre 2021, je viens de terminer son dernier roman “Notre part de nuit”, je suis sidérée et profondément touchée par la puissance de son écriture. Alors je lui emprunte ses mots pour le titre de cette exposition collective, une façon pour moi d’inviter Mariana parmi nous et de lui rendre hommage.

An exhibition imagined by Lola Gonzàlez at the invitation of Éric Mangion. “Winter 2020, there is the discovery of the universe of Mariana Enriquez, a slap. The title of her book haunts me “What we lost in the fire”. November 2021, I have just finished her latest novel “Our share of the night”, I am stunned and deeply touched by the power of her writing. So I borrowed her words for the title of this collective exhibition, a way for me to invite Mariana among us and a way for me to invite Mariana among us and to pay her a tribute.

Sont mises à l’honneur pour l’événement une sélection d’œuvres récentes, objets en corde à la rusticité vernaculaire, mais aussi et surtout, des tissus peints du motif répété, véritable signature qui a fait sa célébrité. Une duplication dont on ne se lasse pas, tant l’artiste joue sur la diversité des matériaux explorés et s’approprie le support brut pour un colorisme sonore et rythmé transcendant la simplicité du motif.

The exhibition sheds light on a selection of recent works, objects made of rope with a vernacular rusticity, but also on fabrics painted with repeated motif, which became his signature. An always-renewed shape while the artist plays on the diversity of the materials and appropriates the raw support for a sound and rhythmic colourism transcending the simplicity of the motif.

Templon annonce la représentation de l’artiste Jeanne Vicérial, à la fois couturière et chercheuse française.  Pensionnaire de la prestigieuse Villa Médicis en 2020, elle est, à presque 30 ans, la première docteure en design de mode en France. Elle développe une œuvre protéiforme, tissant des liens entre design, artisanat, mode, arts et sciences. Baroques et déroutantes, ses créations conçues comme des œuvres d’art de textiles et textures innovants, s’inscrivent au coeur des problématiques actuelles autour de l’écologie ou des liens entre prêt-à-porter et haute couture. Fondatrice du studio de design et de recherche Clinique Vestimentaire, elle cherche par son travail à redéfinir en profondeur la réflexion autour du corps et du vêtement. En mars 2022, la galerie lui consacrera une exposition dans son espace bruxellois. Elle offrira une première plongée dans l’univers visionnaire de l’artiste à travers une dizaine de créations inédites. Née en 1991, Jeanne Vicerial vit et travaille à Paris. Elle se tourne dès l’adolescence vers la confection vestimentaire. Après des études de costumière puis un Master en Design vêtement à l’École des Arts Décoratifs de Paris en 2015, elle s’engage dans un travail de recherche qui prend la forme d’une thèse de doctorat SACRe (Sciences, Arts, Création, Recherche) soutenue en 2019. Elle y questionne les moyens de conception vestimentaire contemporains et propose une alternative à la dichotomie sur-mesure/prêt-à-porter liée au système de la “fast fashion”. Elle approfondit cette recherche par la mise au point, grâce à un partenariat avec le département de mécatronique des MINES ParisTech, d’un procédé robotique breveté permettant de produire des vêtements sur-mesure et sans chute. Parallèlement, elle s’engage dans une démarche artistique qui la pousse à fonder, après un passage chez Hussein Chalayan, le studio de recherche et de création Clinique vestimentaire. Au-delà de ses créations personnelles, elle initie rapidement de nombreuses collaborations avec des artistes d’horizons divers : photographes, sculpteurs, performeurs, chorégraphes, musiciens, parfumeurs… Pensionnaire à l’Académie de France à Rome – Villa Médicis en 2019-2020, ses créations ont notamment été exposées au Palais de Tokyo à Paris (2018) à Rome (Villa Médicis et Palais Farnèse, 2020), à la Collection Lambert en Avignon (2021) et ont récemment intégré la collection du Cnap (Centre national des arts plastiques).

GALERIE TEMPLON ANNOUNCES THE REPRESENTATION OF ARTIST AND CLOTHES DESIGNER JEANNE VICERIAL

Galerie Templon is delighted to announce that it is representing French artist Jeanne Vicérial, a clothes designer and researcher. She was selected for a residency at the prestigious Villa Medici in 2020, and at not yet 30 is the first person in France to be awarded a PhD in the practice of fashion design. She develops a protean body of work, forging links between design, crafts, fashion, the arts and sciences. Baroque and unsettling, her creations are designed as works of art rooted in innovative textiles and textures. They address contemporary environmental issues and the question of the ties between ready-to-wear and haute couture. She founded the design and research studio Clinique Vestimentaire in her quest to use her work to substantially redefine ideas about the body and clothes. In March 2022, the gallery will be holding an exhibition dedicated to her work in its Brussels space. The show will feature around ten brand new creations from the artist, taking viewers on a voyage of discovery into her visionary world.

Dans Roping, 2019-2020, Cotton abandonne les gourmandises pour présenter une rencontre surprenante entre un cow-boy triomphant et son fantastique destrier qui n’est autre qu’une licorne rose. L’animal mythique vient ici défier les normes de la conquête des territoires par les hommes. Ce dernier perd ainsi de sa virilité dans un monde merveilleux fait de douceurs ouatées dans lequel un cow-boy désacralisé n’est pas sans évoquer une mise à jour Queer de celui créé en 1989 par l’artiste Richard Prince.

In Roping, 2019-2020, Cotton switches treats for a surprising encounter between a triumphant cowboy and his fantastic steed which is none other than a pink unicorn. The mythical animal comes here to challenge the norms of the conquest of territories by men. The latter loses its virility in a wonderful world made of softness in which seems to dive a desacralized cowboy who is not without evoking a Queer update of that created in 1989 by the artist Richard Prince.
