Jitish Kallat

L’artiste

Né à 1974 à Mumbai, Jitish Kallat est l’un des artistes indiens les plus prometteurs de sa génération. Imprégnée de références autobiographiques, politiques et artistiques, l’œuvre de Jitish Kallat compose une chronique du cycle de la vie dans une Inde en mutation rapide. Connectant sociologie, biologie et archéologie, l’artiste porte un regard ironique et poétique sur les rapports transformés de la nature et de la culture.

Jitish Kallat présente son installation Covering Letter parallèlement à l’exposition Tangled Hierarchy 2, dont il assure le commissariat. L’œuvre « Public Notice 2 » de Jitish Kallat a rejoint la collection de l’Art Gallery of New South Wales à Sydney. L’artiste restitue le discours historique de Gandhi dans son intégralité, recréant chacune de ses lettres individuelles comme des pièces autonomes.

INSTALLATION – BANGKOK ART BIENNALE

Jitish Kallat présente l’installation sculpturale Untitled (Two Minutes to Midnight). Cette grande installation réunit deux points de repère soigneusement choisis, l’un de notre passé préhistorique et l’autre d’un futur prophétique. Les sculptures sont placées sur un socle qui reprend les contours de l’emblématique « Doomsday Clock » qui, depuis 1947, représente une hypothétique catastrophe mondiale d’origine humaine à « midnight”. Depuis sa création, l’horloge a été réglée chaque année 23 fois en avant et en arrière pour indiquer les menaces que En outre, il présente une installation de papier peint spécifique au site, intitulée Integer Integer Studies (Drawing from Life), comprenant 365 dessins, produits quotidiennement pendant l’année pandémique 2021.

Avec de nouvelles œuvres comprenant des peintures, des installations multimédia, des dessins et des interventions in situ, l’exposition reflète les profondes délibérations de l’artiste sur l’interrelation entre le cosmique et le terrestre. Dans « Order of Magnitude », on trouve une contemplation de l’interconnectivité globale dans les dimensions individuelles, universelles, planétaires et extra-terrestres. Norrtälje Konsthall présente simultanément les expositions personnelles de deux des artistes indiens les plus célèbres, Reena Saini Kallat et Jitish Kallat , créant une contiguïté intéressante entre leurs pratiques. L’exposition de Jitish Kallat intitulée « Epicycles » révèle son engagement de longue date avec les idées de temps, de l’éphémère, de subsistance, d’écologie et de cosmologie. L’exposition est un assemblage de propositions conceptuelles et sensorielles à travers une suite de peintures, dessins, sculptures et vidéos grand format.
